(1898-1990) Хаммер, АрмандПредприниматель и общественный деятель. Родился в семье фармацевта, выходца из России. Окончил медицинский факультет Колумбийского университета [ Columbia University]. С 1921 занимался предпринимательской деятельностью в России, подписал первый договор о концессии на ее территории. В 1921-30 представлял в Советском Союзе интересы 37 фирм США, осуществлял поставки зерна на Урал в обмен на экспорт из России различных товаров, включая произведения искусства. Построил в Москве первую карандашную фабрику, привлек компанию Форда [ Ford Motor Company] к строительству Горьковского автозавода. В 1930 основал торговое дело в г. Нью-Йорке. Вывез из СССР коллекцию произведений искусства, приобретенных за бесценок. Она составила основу его известной галереи. В 1943-54 - президент компаний по производству виски в Нью-Йорке и Кентукки. В 1957 возглавил небольшую калифорнийскую фирму "Оксидентал петролеум" [ Occidental Petroleum Corp.], превратившуюся под его руководством в крупную транснациональную корпорацию. Выступал за развитие советско-американского сотрудничества, не раз был посредником между США и СССР в годы "холодной войны". Автор ряда книг, в том числе автобиографии "Хаммер" ["Hammer"] (1987), вышедшей на русском языке под названием "Мой век - двадцатый.
